The words Oscars and Fifty Shades haven't exactly gone hand-in-hand... until now. According to screenwriter Kelly Marcel – who co-wrote the bestselling novel's film adaptation – leading actor Jamie Dornan could be in with a shout of Academy recognition come 2016.
Speaking at the An Evening in the Writer's Room event in Hollywood, British-born Marcel revealed her main man did a stellar job of navigating author EL James's famously erotic sex scenes in the upcoming movie adaptation, in which he stars as suave businessman Christian Grey opposite Dakota Johnson as Anastasia Steele.
"Apparently Jamie is great at being soft and hard at the same time," she told host Reza Aslan. "Which is hard to do for an actor! He's going to get an Oscar!"
The Irish actor has already won the praise of critics and viewers for his portrayal of serial killer Paul Spector in BBC2's The Fall – although we can't exactly imagine Academy members voting Fifty Shades for awards season glory.
Marcel went on to describe the difficulties of translating James's "mommy porn" to the screen, admitting the "you are my popsicle" line has made it into the movie, as have a number of raunchy scenes between Grey and Steele. "I had to totally describe everything. It was really embarrassing when you're doing studio notes around the table with 12 people."
Directed by Sam Taylor-Johnson, Fifty Shades of Grey will debut in UK cinemas on 13th February 2015. Watch the trailer below...
