Cheryl Fernandez-Versini’s X Factor style - get the look

In the above Instagram snap from Cheryl, she shows us the slick and colourful look she wore at a round of recent X Factor auditions. Her dress has been spotted as a Roland Mouret number, which comes in at a snip for £825 in a 50% off sale. Bargain, eh? It's a gorgeous dress but what really stands out in this look for me is her hair styling. A super sleek, high ponytail with a nod to the 90’s trend thanks to Cheryl's scrunchie. It's is a simple and effective up do, that will work best on hair that hasn’t been washed for a few days. Slick it back with enough product to hold down any possible flyaways and make sure the ends are really straightened to replicate that sleek style.

But this isn't the first fashion hit Cheryl's scored on this year's X Factor red carpet. From an orange Stella McCartney top and trouser ensemble to a simple drop waist dress from Jay Ahr, I don’t think she's put a well-heeled foot wrong. If, like me, you are longing to get a bit of Cheryl glam, here are three of my favourite looks so far with some great options for those of us without deep pockets to affordably steal her style.

Look 1: 24th of June auditions at the Emirates Stadium, London.

Cheryl X-Factor Fashion Trousers

I really do have a passion for an amazing pair of trousers and this pair that Cheryl is rocking, from Temperley London, has me fighting my shopping demons from buying them outright. They are available from Net –A– Porter for £495 if, like me, you simply can't resist bagging the real thing. Her boxy style split front crop top is by Jil Sander and and is no longer available, however at £520 for what is essentially a white crop top, I don’t think I'll lose any sleep over this one. The styling is very simple, like all of Cheryl's current looks; white pointed courts and a fabulous gold collar necklace finish it off perfectly.

Trousers Look Book

Hannah Crepe Round Neck Top, £65 French Connection, White Pointed Courts, £49 KG Bailey at House of Fraser, Wrap Front Jogger, £30 Topshop, Elasticated Waist Crepe Trouser, £75 Jaeger at House of Fraser,  ALSO Raccano Link Chain Collar Necklace, £18 ASOS, White Split Back Crop Top, £38 Lavish Alice.

I've found two options for each of the clothing elements here. For the top, French Connection has a great alternative for those of you who don’t want such a short crop, myself included. The Hannah Crepe top has a good boxy shape and already features a gold collar detail as a bonus. As this top is longer you can tuck this in rather than baring your midriff to the elements, making it much more suitable for an office look.

The second top from Lavish Alice is more similar to Cheryl’s, featuring a split back. I couldn’t find anything quite as fabulous as the Temperley London trousers, however here are two great styles for whichever way you choose to take the look. Although not as smart, these Topshop Joggers give the same volume as Cheryl’s trousers, while the crepe trousers from Jaeger have a more streamlined silhouette and make a good investment piece.

Look 2: 26th of June auditions at the Baltic Centre, Newcastle.

Cheryl X Factor White Dress

This simple white dress is a Stella McCartney piece, from her 2014 spring / summer resort collection – no longer available, although it was retailing at £830. Pretty pricey for a LWD. Once again, the rest of Cheryl's styling is kept equally as simple. With her nude pointed courts and cuff bracelet, Cheryl really is showing us how less can be more this year and it’s definitely working in her favour.

White Dress Look Book

Texture Dress, £29.99 Mango, Cuff, £635 Ti Sento, Panorama High Heels, £25 ASOS, White Razor Back Midi Back Dress by Oh My Love, £35 Topshop, Limited Gold Sleek Assorted Chain Bangle set, £12.99 New Look, Scorpio Platform Shoes, £62 New Look.

This Texture dress from Mango looks to me a pretty near match to the Stella McCartney number; this is a roll neck rather than a cowl neck and the texture on the Mango piece isn’t snake skin, but these are really minor details – and for a £728 saving, I know which one I would chose.

The next piece has a slightly different style. It's a razor back midi dress from Oh My Love and is longer and slimmer fitting than Cheryl’s – if you want a more nipped in style this one will be very flattering on the waist. Just add a thin white silk scarf draped backwards across your neck to give the cowl neck look. Cheryl’s cuff is tricky to make out so I've picked two different options here that will work equally well. My favourite is the two tone Ti Sento Cuff – I just love the detailing on this one.

Look 3: 1st of August Auditions at Wembley Arena, London

Cheryl X Factor Peplum

My last pic of Cheryl’s X Factor looks so far, is this bright and fun peplum creation; both pieces are by 3.1 Phillip Lim and are still on sale. The top is available here and priced at £152, down from £380 while the skirt is also on sale, available here for £141, down from £235. This is a youthful and summery look, which Cheryl has paired with yet another pair of pointed toe courts. Better start preparing your feet as these pointed shoes are a definite favourite of Cheryl’s, and the greatest enemy of your little toes.

 Peplum Look Book

Peplum Top, £9.99 H&M, Double Cream Pearl Studs, £6.50 Topshop, Puffy Jacquard Pocket Pelmet Skirt, £34 Topshop, Glory White High Court Shoes, £58 Topshop, Lilyana Mint Peplum Mini Dress, £13.99 Missguided

This look was the most difficult to find exact matches for, thanks to the intricate print, so I've gone for simple styling, echoing the colours and shapes of Cheryl’s look. I particularly like the textured pelmet skirt which, when paired with a peplum top gives a very similar shape. Another way to recreate this look is to choose a body-con peplum dress, which will look fantastic for a night on the town. In a close up image I also spotted Cheryl wore a pair of pearl earrings adding to the feminine vibe in this look. This pair from Topshop are a great cheap option to spruce up an outfit. Another pair of white court shoes finish the look off, if you can bear them. Personally they are my shoe nemesis so I'll always have to find a strappy or rounded toe option. There is only so far I can go for fashion...

My favourite look so far has to be the Temperley London Trouser and white crop top combination. I just can’t get those trousers out of my mind. It’s a problem, I know. As The X Factor audition stages continue, we hope to see more fantastic style choices from Cheryl ahead of the much-hyped live shows fashion-off between her and Mel B. I’ll be backing team Cheryl – whose corner will you be in?

The X Factor is expected to return to ITV at the end of August.
