Discovery’s long-running Shark Week is back this Sunday. The weeklong series of shark footage, documentaries and movies was set up to raise awareness for these endangered creatures. Shark Week will be shown in more than 72 countries, offering various films and playing tribute to these beautiful beasts. See below for our pick of programmes to catch in the UK:

Megalodon: The Monster Shark Lives, 7pm Monday, August 11

Colossus was the name given to a dominant shark at Seal Island, South Africa. But one day he vanished into thin air. Natural History producer Jeff Kurr goes on a two-year journey, using high tech underwater gadgetry and tracking devices, to try and find the missing mega-shark. Expect aerial attacks and nail-biting face-to-face action with great whites.

Sharkpocalypse, 7pm Tuesday, August 12

Could humans be provoking shark attacks? In order to study the way these ocean beasts feed and show how sharks attack in deep waters, a pair of experts get in a cage and drop 50 feet into the ocean.

Great White: The Impossible Shot, 8pm Wednesday, August 13

With a plot that sounds like a Jaws movie, Great White Serial Killer follows one shark that keeps returning to a Californian surfing beach at the same time of year to hunt. Shark experts in the area build a cage with a see-through plexiglass screen and use a man as bait to lure the great white in, but can the shark smell his fear?
