Mary Berry – Bake Off judge and style icon – was back in a blazer of glory for the opening episode of the new series last night. Mary sported a floral number from Oasis that is definitely up there with my favourite looks from the baking queen. It’s still available from a few online retailers, detailed below, so snap it up fast as it is sure to sell out quick. And if you fancy going full-on floral there are matching shorts available as well.
If you’re already loving Mary’s style this year and can’t wait until next week for more style tips, don’t panic. I’ve put together a selection of her top looks from past Bake Off series for you, so you can get the Mary Berry look, while testing out your biscuit recipes ready for next weeks Baking challenge – just try not to spill your mix down your new outfit.
Jaeger Floral Blazer
This floral blazer from Jaeger was one of Mary’s instant hits. Like the legendary Zara Bomber, it was talked about on fashion and gossip pages around the country and sold out almost immediately.
Mary’s original Blazer from Jaeger is sadly no longer available, however this jazzy piece from Topshop echos the print fantastically. It has a larger pattern and a boxier shape but I think this makes it an ideal item for a work wear outfit. Layered over a white shift dress this jacket is bold enough to really brighten up a look.
Hot Pink looks fantastic on Mary, her make up matches the tones perfectly meaning she doesn’t appear washed out against the bold colour. This jacket has a great notched collar detail, which sadly I haven’t been able to match, however there are some great alternatives for you to try.
The first option is a bright and easy to wear Jacket from H&M. I particularly like the no collar detail allowing you to really go for big and bold necklaces. I would style this over a black summer jumpsuit, giving the look a hit of colour. The second piece from Jaeger is classic in design. The dusty pink and a tuxedo style lapel make it a perfect fit over a summer garden party dress.
Oasis Floral Blazer
Another big sell-out item was this Blazer from Oasis; Mary again proves that floral doesn’t mean frumpy and instead pulls off a fashionable feminine look.
The particular Oasis jacket that Mary is wearing is no longer available, however Oasis’s new season line includes this very similar alternative, named ‘The Wisteria Jacket’. I actually prefer this new design, it isn’t such a busy pattern and the palette is really gorgeous. Teamed with some smart jeans and a camisole this is the perfect way to smarten up a work wear outfit. If the colour tones aren’t your cup of tea then how about trying a different shade, like this blue version from the Jessica Wright Collection at Lipstick Boutique.
Ted Baker Neon Yellow Blazer
Another Neon colour from Mary, but doesn’t she style it perfectly. The bright yellow could have easily washed her out but the addition of the warm toned scarf breaks up the yellow and adds warmth to the look.
The original Blazer is a Ted Baker piece and I would hazard a guess that the scarf is also from the same brand, to see Ted Bakers Womenswear collection you can have a browse here. For a more affordable option, this Topshop jacket is a great choice. The scarf really makes the outfit for Mary here, though, and I have found a great alternative from Italca. This silk mix scarf has all the right tones to match the original, a little pricey for a scarf but I reckon it will earn its price tag given how much you will wear it.
