Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy had a pretty good debut weekend, raking in $94 million at the US and Canadian box office. That earns the film the title of third biggest opening of the year (behind Captain America: The Winter Soldier, $95m, and Transformers: Age of Extinction's $100m). It also crushes the previous August opening weekend record of $69.3 million, taken by The Bourne Ultimatum in 2007.
In the UK a studio estimate puts the takings at £6.4 million over its opening four days, one of the biggest for a Marvel original. It beat Iron Man's opening four days (£5.6m) as well as X-Men's £4.8m four-day takings.
Basically it did pretty blooming well.
