“Be careful what you wish for,” warns the first clip of the mystical fantasy Into the Woods. The trailer for the lavish Disney film, based on James Lapine and Stephen Sondheim’s Broadway musical, opens with a whispering “I wish” juxtaposed with magical graphics.
The fairytale is not as sweet as it seems. The film follows the intertwined stories of classic Brothers Grimm tales, but with a dark twist. What’s even more exciting is the A-list cast who’ll bring our favourite childhood characters to life: Meryl Streep as the inevitably eerie witch, Anna Kendrick the innocent Cinderella, troubled baker James Corden and his wife, Emily Blunt.
In addition, Chris Pine stars as Prince Charming and Johnny Depp is the quintessential Wolf. The cast also includes Lilla Crawford as Little Red Riding Hood, Daniel Huttlestone as Jack from Jack and the Beanstalk, and MacKenzie Mauzy as Rapunzel.
Rob Marshall, the director of Chicago and Memoirs of a Geisha, helms the movie.
Disney has also released its first stills from the future blockbuster.
Into the Woods, which was shot in various locations across the UK including parts of Surrey, Kent, and Buckinghamshire, will screen as a Christmas film in the US, and reach the UK on 9 January.
