Details have been released of the BBC's plan to screen Peter Capaldi's debut episode of Doctor Who in cinemas in the UK and Ireland at the same time as its broadcast on BBC1.

An exclusive cinema screening of series eight opener Deep Breath will take place at London's Odeon in Leicester Square on August 23rd with special guests in attendance.

The one-off event will feature a ‘never seen before’ five-minute video from an upcoming Doctor Who DVD release and a ten-minute 'behind-the-scenes of episode one' feature, followed by a Q&A with the guest stars that will be streamed live into participating Cinemas across the UK and Ireland.

The identities of the guest stars are as yet unknown, although fans will be expecting appearances from Capaldi, his Tardis companion Jenna Coleman and showrunner Steven Moffat.

A limited number of tickets for the Leicester Square Cinema Event will be available to the public and can be purchased here, on Friday 1st August at 10am. Tickets for other participating cinemas will go on sale on Friday 1st August from 11am.

More information regarding cinemas showing the episode and showing the live stream of the Q&A from the Leicester Square Cinema Event will be made available at doctorwho.tv/watch/cinema.

The move follows the huge success of the global cinema screenings of the show’s 50thanniversary episode The Day of the Doctor in November last year. In addition to it being simulcast on TV in 98 territories, fans were also able to enjoy the episode on the big screen in over 1500 cinemas around the world.
