A rough black and white edit of Peter Capaldi's first full episode as the Doctor has appeared on the internet six weeks ahead of its scheduled transmission date on 23rd August on BBC1.

The episode surfaced through the same security lapse that emerged on Monday, where five Doctor Who series 8 scripts, as well as dozens of other scripts and documents, appeared in public Google searches despite being stored on BBC Worldwide servers. Six Doctor Who video files were listed on this server, and while at the time of writing only the first episode has surfaced, there appears every chance further videos could still emerge online.

The incident is oddly similar to the 2005 leak of Rose, the first episode of the new Doctor Who era starring Christopher Eccleston, which appeared online around 20 days before broadcast. In that case, the leak was tracked to a Canadian third party.

Commenting on the latest revelations, a BBC Worldwide spokesperson told RadioTimes.com: "This is part of BBC Worldwide's ongoing security investigation into leaked unfinished Doctor Who materials. This content is currently being removed and originates from the same Miami server we disabled last week, it is not a new issue. We'd like to thank the amazing Doctor Who fans who are continuing to keep fansites and social media spoiler-free but would remind anyone downloading and sharing this material that it is illegal to do so."

On Monday, BBC Worldwide said they were "investigating a security issue around Doctor Who Series 8 where unfinished material has inadvertently been made public" and apologised "to all the show's fans, the BBC and the cast and crew who have worked tirelessly making the series."

Added a spokesperson: “We would like to make a plea to anyone who might have any of this material and spoilers associated with it not to share it with a wider audience so that everyone can enjoy the show as it should be seen when it launches. We know only too well that Doctor Who fans are the best in the world and we thank them for their help with this and their continued loyalty."

The BBC has since launched a #keepmespoilerfree social media campaign to encourage Doctor Who fans not to share sensitive series 8 plot points and materials ahead of broadcast, an initiative that has been well supported by fans and fan groups across the Whoniverse.

Doctor Who will return to BBC1 with Peter Capaldi and Jenna Coleman in Deep Breath on 23 August
