The 2001 EastEnders cliffhanger in which Kat (Jessie Wallace) revealed that she was the mum - and not the sister - of Zoe (Michelle Ryan) has been voted the greatest moment in soap opera history.
The Walford showdown, which irrevocably altered the Slater family tree, saw off competition from the likes of Dirty Den's murder and the Coronation Street tram crash in a poll commissioned by Talk Talk TV.
The research also studied changing TV viewing habits and found two thirds of those polled had missed a pivotal TV moment and that three quarters opt to watch popular shows using catch-up services.
Julie Goodyear, best known for playing brassy Rovers landlady Bet Lynch on Corrie, said of the findings: "How we watch TV has changed dramatically since I first started on Coronation Street. People would ignore the telephone while major programmes were on for fear of missing out. Now we catch up in our own time."
The Zoe/Kat storyline earned actress Jessie Wallace the Best Actress prize at the 2002 British Soap Awards, with the revelation itself scooping Best Single Episode. You can see the famous "You Ain't My Mother" scene below:
