Downton Abbey star Brendan Coyle is swapping the hallowed halls of the Crawley’s palatial manor house for London and the grubby world of organised crime.
The 50-year-old actor has been cast in Spotless, a new 10-part drama from French channel Canal Plus, which starts filming in London next month.
Coyle will join Silk actress Miranda Raison, Marc-Andre Grondin and Denis Menochet in the “irreverent, dark, funny, sexy and dangerous” drama, which will follows brothers Jean and Martin as they become entangled in the “deadly dynamics of organised crime.”
There are no details as of yet on what part Coyle will play in the drama. But if the role is a criminal one, chances are it won’t be too much of a stretch for Coyle. Mr Bates, his character in Downton Abbey, has revealed his darker side in recent seasons, spending a spell in prison, forging signatures, pick-pocketing and potentially murdering a man by pushing him under a London bus…
