Downton Abbey fans can rest easy, assured in the knowledge that series five won’t contain any huge shocks.
Because it seems the fifth series of the ITV period drama will go by without the demise of any major characters.
“There aren’t any plans for any big characters to die this year,” Lesley Nicol, who plays Mrs Patmore in Julian Fellowes’ hit series, told The Daily Star.
“There has been such a big fuss in the past, especially with Matthew Crawley. I think it would be very unwise to do any more deaths because the viewers don’t like them,” she continued.
Series three of the period drama, which is watched by millions the world over, saw the shock deaths of Lady Sybil, played by Jessica Brown Findlay, and Matthew Crawley, played by Dan Stevens. The death of Matthew Crawley especially, which happened in the closing minutes of the 2012 Christmas special, sparked a backlash from fans.
Downton Abbey will be back on ITV later this year.
