British adventurer Bear Grylls is branching out to America, with his winning survival TV format. NBC has ordered a six-part-show named Running Wild with Bear Grylls that will see the survivalist take A-list stars into the wilderness for a period of 48-hours each.

Zoolander actor Ben Stiller, Step Up lead man Channing Tatum, and 17 Again star Zac Efron have all stepped up to the challenge. News correspondent Tamron Hall, American sports star Deion Sanders and True Lies actor Tom Arnold will also join Grylls on an adventure.

The stars will take on activities including skydiving in the Catskill Mountains, facing the harsh Scottish weather and scaling cliffs in Utah.

"Ultimately, this show is about taking these stars on the adventure of a lifetime," explained Grylls, "and being alongside them when they discover something new and empowering about themselves and their world. For me, that is always a privilege."

The show will be a chance to see these stars pushing themselves to the limit and exposing their inner fears. Similarly, in Bear Grylls' Wild Weekend, which broadcasted last year on Channel 4, he took Stephen Fry into the harsh Italian Dolomites. The pair had to carve out the heart and tongue of a deer carcass for their lunch, start a fire with a tampon and create a water bottle out of a condom during the show. Fry revealed more about his struggle with depression and admitted that he was found guilty of credit card fraud when he was younger.

The action man also has another celebrity survival show planned for a UK audience, only this series will take on a more I'm a Celebrity... feel. Bear Grylls: Celebrity Survivor will see famous faces including Liverpudlian comic John Bishop, Corrie actress Michelle Keegan and Olympic athlete Jessica Ennis-Hill go on an outdoor adventure in a remote part of the world. The least capable in the wild will get voted off each night.

Running Wild with Bear Grylls will air in July, on NBC and may be available for a UK audience at a later date.
