It wouldn’t be build-up-to Downton season without a little chatter about who might be about to depart the period drama.
There are always murmurings about whether or not Maggie Smith will return – and this year Lily Rose who, rumour has it, is leaving because of her commitments to Disney film Cinderella, has been at the centre of some speculation too.
Thankfully, though, there is one star we can cross off the list.
Michelle Dockery, who has played the lovely Lady Mary since the show’s inception back in 2010, says she won’t quit the hit period drama. Ever.
“I’m here til the end,” Dockery told The Hollywood Reporter, when asked about the numerous predictions that she might leave the Abbey.
“It amuses me more than anything, because it’s all speculation, and I think it’s down to fact the show has such a popularity. But no, I’m here till the end, whenever that may be,” she said.
Rumours that Dockery might leave the show were at their height last year, after her co-star and on-screen husband Dan Stevens quit, with a shock exit at the end of the 2012 Christmas special.
Downton Abbey will return for its fifth series and a Christmas special later this year
