Jared Leto in talks to replace Will Smith in Brilliance

The Oscar-winner could star alongside Noomi Rapace in the sci-fi film about people with superpowers — brilliant

Hot from an Oscar win for Best Supporting Actor in Dallas Buyers Club, Jared Leto is reportedly in early talks to replace Will Smith in Brilliance. The film is an adaptation of the Marcus Sakey novel about a world where a small number of people are born with extraordinary abilities and become known as “brilliants”.

Leto would play a federal agent, also a brilliant, whose great hunting gifts are put to full use in tracking down a terrorist, yet another brilliant, who’s using his powers to start a war. Noomi Rapace, the Swedish actress best known for The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, has also been attached to the film.

Smith left Brilliance in May due to scheduling conflicts with another project. Should Leto take on the role, it’ll be his first lead for a while. The Thirty Seconds to Mars front man took a five-year hiatus from acting before joining the cast of Dallas Buyers Club.
