Could Alan Hansen be a contender for the next series of Strictly Come Dancing?
The former Liverpool defender has been in talks with producers even since his announcement last year that he was ending a 22-year career as a football pundit for the BBC, it is claimed.
Hansen leaves Match of the Day after the World Cup this month and as well as being a lean former athlete is thought to have the kind of no-nonsense charisma that will make him a draw for viewers.
During his 22 years with the show he attracted an army of fans delighted by his insight and frequent castigation of "shocking defending" in the games he commented on.
When he announced he was quitting last year he also revealed that during his time on the show he had been approached to be a football manager but turned offers down because of his commitment to the BBC.
But now he is a free agent “the feeling is that a deal can be done” on Strictly a source told the Sun.
“He would be a brilliant signing for Strictly. The fact that he is known for his forthright views is a bonus.”
Another contender is thought to be Ross Kemp with bosses also said to have spoken to former Coronation Street actress Michelle Collins.
Strictly Come Dancing will return to our screens in the autumn with new co-host Claudia Winkleman.
