Drop the Dead Donkey's Neil Pearson and The Chase's Nicola Stephenson have joined the cast of Waterloo Road as headmaster Vaughan Fitzgerald and teacher Allie Westbrook, and have begun filming the final instalments of BBC1's school drama yesterday on set in Scotland.

BBC execs explained in April that Waterloo Road would be finishing, and promised fans of the show that they would not be disappointed with the ending – it would go out "on a high".

Although Waterloo Road is yet to return to our screens in 2014 with series nine, the cast and crew have already begun filming the 10th and last season.

The drama follows teachers and students at a challenging secondary school (initially an English school then a Scottish school). Laurie Brett has played Christine Mulgrew in Waterloo Road since 2012, but will be reprising her role as Jane Beale in EastEnders when shooting finishes.

Series 10 will air in 2015.
