The British Academy Television Awards, 8pm BBC1

What a year it has been in television! Graham Norton is back to host the star studded evening. What's the most prestigious of the prizes? Why the Radio Times Audience Award of course, the only one chosen by the public. Voting has now closed, but there's a complete guide to the nominees here

Dylan Thomas: A Poet in New York, 9pm BBC2

To celebrate the centenary of Dylan Thomas's birth, here's a solid biopic about his death. Tom Hollander gives a typically impressive performance as the great 20th Century poet, pitching him as a drunken philanderer bouncing between self-loathing and boyish boasting. Thomas died in New York aged 39. He did not go gentle.

Imagine: Rio 50 Degrees - Carry on CaRIOca, 10.30pm BBC1

Rio is impressive even on a quiet weekday, and this year's World Cup is likely to bring even more energy to an already lively city. But you've never seen it like this before. Filmmaker Julien Temple producers a dizzying profile using archive clips, interviews and modern camerawork to give a sense of the capital's true character.
