Your favourite TV double act?

As presenters, few can beat Richard and Judy. I miss their chemistry – it was utterly genuine, their relationship was on screen as it was at home.

Are you a happy family on Channel 4 News?

It’s a smart team of creative, awkward, difficult people who want to make trouble; there’s always lots of debates and disagreements about what we should do and how we should do it.

Do you prefer presenting Unreported World on your own?

The documentary series is just me and a producer/director/cameraman, so it’s a very different, intense experience. For the new series I spent time with militants in Lebanon; after several days they turned hostile. I guess if you’re going to spend time filming men with guns, there’s always a risk it will get difficult. It was the hairiest situation I’ve been in.

Who should win RT’s Audience Award?

Without doubt Breaking Bad. I watched four and a half series in three and a half weeks then had to wait for months for the final instalment. I haven’t been as obsessed with a TV series since Starsky and Hutch when I was six.

British Academy Television Awards are on Sunday 18 May at 8:00pm on BBC1.
