Dan Stevens is continuing his quest to banish Matthew Crawley to a distant memory, adding yet another edgy role to his growing collection…

Since he quit Downton Abbey in dramatic style back in Christmas 2012, the British actor has filled his CV with plenty of meatier parts, from his turn opposite Adam Sandler in The Cobbler to playing a drug dealer in A Walk Among the Tombstones.

Now, he’s signed up to join John Travolta and Michael Pitt in new film Criminal Activities which, according to Variety, will follow four friends who make a risky investment that puts them in trouble with the mob. Directed by Jackie Earle Hale, the film will begin shooting this June.

Stevens will next be seen in The Guest this September playing a super soldier with a psychotic edge – a role that’s earned him rave reviews from critics. Also among his slate of films set to be released this year is Night At the Museum 3 which will see him showcase his comedic skills as Lancelot opposite Ben Stiller, Ricky Gervais and Owen Wilson.
