The relationship between Peter Beale (Ben Hardy) and Lola Pearce (Danielle Harold) is to hit a rocky patch next week after she gives an interview to the press about Lucy's death.
"Peter feels betrayed by what Lola has done," says actor Ben Hardy. "She says she was thinking of him and that they could use the money for a holiday, but he sees her actions as being completely stupid."
Lola's good intentions come to nought though when the Walford Gazzette publishes a piece that doesn't paint Lucy in a particularly good light. "Lola was actually trying to say nice things about Lucy, but the journalist ends up prying into private things. Nasty journalists - what are they like!" laughs Hardy.
Peter's exasperation with his girlfriend leads to Peter deciding to move back home, a move that leaves Lola brokenhearted. In recent weeks, viewers have seen Peter grow increasingly close to Lauren (Jacqueline Jossa), who has been a consistent source of support in the wake of Lucy's death. So what are the qualities that Lauren offers and which Lola lacks?
"Lola is trying really hard to help Peter, but she's saying all the wrong things. She keeps saying, 'Are you OK?', which is the worst question to ask someone when their sister's died because they're obviously not going to be OK. So she's pressing him and pushing him too much. Whereas Lauren just lets him speak when he wants to speak or sit there in silence. Maybe it's because she's been through it all with Bradley."
Certainly, events appear to be pushing the pair together with an upcoming episode seeing Peter and Lauren caught in a compromising position after he persuades her to get the lettings agency back on track. "Maybe there's some tension between them, maybe something happens that might cause more problems," Hardy says coyly. "It's a charged moment and important."
And who does the actor think his character should be with - Lauren or Lola? "Some people think Peter's relationship with Lola is unlikely and I can see why. But I don't think it's completely off the wall - Peter is so caring and he wants the best for people and I can see why he got into it. There is an attraction.
"But I don't think his relationship with Lola is particularly healthy for him. He has this image of her that isn't real. So ultimately, I think Peter should be with Lauren. But right now, he should be on his own for a bit."
