Yahoo is jumping on the on demand bandwagon, with two original TV series.
The technology company has announced plans to follow in the footsteps of the likes of Netflix and Amazon by producing two brand new comedies, which will be available to watch on Yahoo Screen’s website and app.
The original series, titled Other Space and Sin City Saints, will both consist of eight 30-minute episodes which will appear all at once.
Other Space is being created for Yahoo by Bridesmaids director Paul Feig. The comedy is being described as a “galactic adventure set in the 22nd century” and will follow a spaceship staffed by a “collection of over-matched rookies, feuding siblings, burned-out veterans and obsolete robots” who stumble upon an “alternative universe, far stranger and way more dangerous than ours.”
Sin City Saints will follow “a Silicon Valley tycoon whose lifelong dream was to buy a pro basketball team but quickly finds he’s in over his head.” The series will be executive produced by One Tree Hill’s Mike Tollin and directed by Bryan Gordon, whose CV includes The Office and Curb Your Enthusiasm.
Both series will also be available to watch on Apple TV and Roku.
“We’re thrilled to kick off our long-form programming with critically acclaimed creators Paul Feig, Mike Tollin and Bryan Gordon, and we will continue to work with entertainment’s top creators to bring you fresh, innovative and original shows you can watch anytime, anywhere. There’s more to come, so stay tuned!” reads a statement from Yahoo’s chief marketing officer Kathy Savitt.
