Rachel Riley is to leave Channel 5’s The Gadget Show just a year after joining the series. She will be replaced by Winter Olympic gold medallist, Amy Williams.

Williams, who won a gold in the Skeleton at the Vancouver 2010 Olympics has recently embarked on a presenting career, joining the Ski Sunday team on the BBC in 2013 and working as a member of the commentary team during the Corporation’s Sochi 2014 coverage.

She will join Jason Bradbury, Ortis Deley and Jon Bentley on Channel 5’s ever-popular technology review show.

Riley, 28, rose to fame after replacing Carol Vorderman as co-host of Channel 4’s Countdown has become hot TV presenting property in recent times.  Last year she appeared on the eleventh series of Strictly Come Dancing. Riley was recently connected to the vacancy on the BBC Breakfast sofa left by Susanna Reid’s defection to ITV, although Riley has publicly denied she's planning such a move.

Her exit from The Gadget Show follows that of Pollyanna Woodward, who left the show after four years at the end of the previous series. Woodward recently announced that she and her professional golfing fiancee Paul Casey are expecting their first baby.

Amy Williams said of her new job: "I'm delighted to be joining the team at The Gadget Show and can’t wait to get stuck in testing the latest technology on the market."

Guy Davies, Commissioning Editor – Factual at Channel 5 added:  "I’m pleased to welcome Amy Williams to The Gadget Show team and I’m sure our audience will take to her immediately.  I would also like to thank Rachel Riley for doing such a sterling job and wish her the best of luck for the future.”
