[SPOILERS: DO NOT READ ON UNLESS YOU KNOW WHAT HAPPENED IN EPISODE TWO]

Social media was to be avoided yesterday if you were fighting the fight against spoilers - congratulations are due if you managed to get through the day without spying a revealing statement from our Game of Thrones loving cousins across the pond.

Once we had all watched those final few moments in last night's episode, though, it was a free for all. And Twitter was a play-by-play, uncensored reaction to the shocking events of The Purple Wedding.

As King Joffrey bit the dust, the internet was awash with jubilant cries.

Seriously. Never did a death bring so many so much joy...

Or quite so many giggles...

And people were, like, REALLY looking forward to it.

Once it had happened the jokers were out in force...

Though some morally-questionable Thrones fans were a little disappointed his demise wasn't more drawn out and painful. This show really doesn't bring out the best in people...

Generally, Twitter showed a real lack of respect for the late king.

Apart from a small few.

And by small few we mean, just this one man.

Game of Thrones continues on Mondays at 9:00pm on Sky Atlantic.
