No sooner was he crowned champion on last night’s The Voice than talk has turned to whether winner Jermain Jackman will get a number one hit.
The Voice winners have so far struggled to set the charts alight. Tom Jones’s champ Leanne Mitchell sold just 895 copies of her debut album.
On whether will.i.am’s 19-year-old act will scoop top spot on the single chart this year, bookies’ odds put Jackman at 10/1. For a chart-topping album odds are in at 5/1.
“Jermaine was a shock winner having been 10/1 at one point on Saturday. He now needs to deliver chart success – which the odds suggest is unlikely,” says William Hill spokesman Rupert Adams.
Gossip around the future of Kylie Minogue’s role in the show have been called into question due to a possible clash with her upcoming tour. Kylie refused to confirm whether she’s leaving on this week’s Graham Norton Show.
But if she does leave, bookies are warming up that spinning chair for singer Rita Ora, who is the favourite at 3/1. Ora’s name has already been suggested for a judging spot on the X Factor this year. Will it be a race to scoop the sassy singer?
BBC will certainly be hoping to keep the magic of the Kylie effect, although viewing figures last night sat at a peak of 8.3 million, which resulted in a 6.6 million average. Lower than the 9.6 million who saw Sam Bailey crowned X Factor champ in what was one of the lowest numbers in the show’s history.
