There's heartbreak for Eva next week when mum Stella Price (Michelle Collins) decides to leave Weatherfield for New York. Unable to come to terms with the news that her mum is going, Eva complains to Jason (Ryan Thomas) about how selfish Stella is. But when Tony (Terence Maynard) tells her that she should support her mum, will a pensive Eva be able to bring herself to make up with Stella before she leaves? Actress Catherine Tyldesley, who plays Eva, tells us more:

Has Eva had no inkling that Stella might be fed up and have itchy feet? Has she been too caught up in the relationship with Jason to notice?
I don’t think it’s even entered her head that her mum wants to move away. And yes, she and Jason are still in their honeymoon phase and everything’s great between them. So how her mum is feeling has not even entered her mind.

Does it rile her that Leanne knows Stella’s plans before she does?
Yes it does because, in the past, Eva has felt second best to Leanne. The whole reason the family moved to Weatherfield is because Stella wanted to find Leanne, so it’s still a bit of an issue with Eva. So when she finds out Leanne already knows, Eva’s not best pleased because she’s already feels like Leanne comes first.

Is there a big showdown with Stella? What does Eva say and what’s Stella’s reaction?
There’s not so much of a showdown, but Eva is really hurt. She takes it as a personal attack and is genuinely shocked. Eva is very close to her mum so she feels like she’s losing her mother and best friend. I don’t think there was any malice in Stella telling Leanne first, but Eva feels even more hurt by that fact that she did.

Is Eva completely thinking about herself and not what might be best for her mum?
Initially she does think about herself, but when she has time to think about it she does come round to the idea and does realise that Stella isn’t just her mum but her own person who has her own needs.

Does she need her mum so much now that she seems to have become an honorary Grimshaw?
I think if she didn’t have Jason it would be a different story. Jason is good for her and she’s able to lean on him. She is in somebody else’s family unit, she has Eileen and Todd, so she feels like she has a lot of support elsewhere. But Stella’s her mum and no one can ever fully replace that.

Does Eva feel like Stella’s deserting her? First her gran left and now it’s her mum?
Initially she does. Her stepdad Karl turned out to be everything Eva thought he was - a nasty person. She felt upset when her gran up and left and now her mum is doing the same. Everyone that she knew and who was with her when she moved to Weatherfield has gone and it’s unnerving for her.

So is Eva jealous that her mum’s off to New York?
Without Jason she would be in a worse place and might have decided to move away with Stella. The only reason she wants to stay is Jason.

Do Tony’s words to her ring true? Why suddenly? Does she realise she’s being selfish?
I think out of Eva and Jason, Eva is the dominant one and Jason is just too lazy for arguments. Although he’s probably thinking that Eva is in the wrong for being mad with her mum, he would never raise that issue but Tony is outside of it. When he tells her it’s not all about her, she listens to him. She’s taken to Tony and respects what he says because she hasn’t got her own father and having a father figure is quite appealing to her.

Does Eva go to see Stella before she leaves? Surely she can’t want her mum to go without them making up?
Yes, it’s all fine when Stella leaves. They make up and Eva tells her she wants her to be happy. They say they’ll miss each other, but they have a mother and daughter bond and they don’t need to say too much. They know they love each other.

How supportive is Jason?
He’s very supportive. Jason’s become her rock and I think he’s starting to replace Stella in terms of the person that she leans on.

Why does Eva move in with Leanne? We thought she was moving into the Grimshaws?
I think eventually that could happen. I think it would be great to see Eva and Jason living together. Eva and Leanne have a good relationship now and I think it will be interesting to see how their relationship develops when they live together. Personally, I think Eva will drive Leanne mad!

And will you miss Michelle Collins?
Michelle was my friend as well as my colleague. I’m going to really miss having her around. When we did those last scenes it wasn’t hard to make Eva cry as the tears were my own.
