Jamie Lomas is to depart EastEnders this summer following a decision by show bosses not to renew his one-year contract.
Lomas made his first appearance in August last year, with his character Jake Stone introduced as a love interest for recovering alcoholic Lauren Branning (Jacqueline Jossa). The pair first encountered each other at a support group, but it was later revealed that Jake was already married to salon owner Sadie Young (Kate Magowan).
After a brief absence following the break-up of his marriage, Jake recently returned to Walford in a dishevelled state. Ian (Adam Woodyatt) was seen letting Jake stay on his sofa after realising that he’d been made homeless.
Lomas today assured viewers that there’s still plenty of drama ahead for Jake. Writing on Twitter this morning, the actor teased future plotlines and also sang the praises of EastEnders’s executive producer Dominic Treadwell-Collins:
At the time of his signing in June 2013, Lomas said: “I’m over the moon to be joining the cast of EastEnders. I have admired the show for many years and I can’t wait to start working with such a strong cast of actors. Jake Stone is a great character to play and I’m really looking forward to getting my teeth stuck into the role.”
Prior to his stint on the BBC1 soap, he spent five years playing bad boy Warren Fox on C4’s Hollyoaks.
