Alan Titchmarsh is stepping down from his daily chat show after seven years.

The 64-year-old presenter and gardener has cited new projects as the reason for calling time on The Alan Titchmarsh Show, which airs weekdays at 3pm on ITV.

"I've thoroughly enjoyed my years at the helm of The Alan Titchmarsh Show but I feel the time has come to move on," he announced in a statement.

"With some exciting new projects ahead, I'm looking forward to continuing to work with ITV."

An ITV spokeswoman confirmed the news: "Alan has decided that the next series of his chat show will be the final one to give way to other projects with us which will be announced in due course."

The final edition of The Alan Tichmarsh show is due to air this September, with Titchmarsh continuing to front Love Your Garden and expected to oversee Britain's Best Garden, both for ITV.
