He’s best known to legions of Doctor Who fans as the man who played the titular Time Lord between 1984 and 1986, and to reality fans as the ‘father’ of the camp in the 2012 series of I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!, but at 70, Colin Baker is not ready to rest on his celebrity laurels… he wants more – he wants to be in Corrie.
Speaking exclusively to RadioTimes.com, the former Doctor Who star admitted his dream role would be to land a part on the cobbles of Weatherfield.
“I grew up in the area [Rochdale] and I think I would fit in,” Baker explained at the annual RadioTimes Covers’ Party. He admitted that he loved the attention that he still got from Doctor Who fans, but said appearing in Coronation Street would be the icing on the cake of his long career in show business.
“I could play Fred Elliot’s long lost brother…” he said, before launching into a broad and booming impression of John Savident’s legendary Weatherfield butcher.
Such was Colin’s passion and conviction at this point – he had us won over.
And with a raft of big name actors from Nigel Havers to Les Dennis drafted into the show in recent years, surely it’s time we gave Colin a chance?
He has the acting pedigree, the familiarity to millions and the enthusiasm to rise to the challenge…
But what do you think? Would you like to see Rochdale-raised Colin on the Cobbles™… should he be the next Corrie star?
