A row between Belle Dingle (Eden Taylor-Draper) and her friend Gemma Andrews (Tendai Rinomhota) will end in catastrophe next week after the pair come to blows over the affections of Sean Spencer.
An argument will erupt during scenes to be shown on Friday 28 February after Gemma becomes jealous of Belle and Sean’s closeness. As the two girls bicker over Sean, Belle pushes Gemma and she falls, hitting her head in the process.
The pair then go off in different directions but as Gemma walks home, she collapses and slides down a bank. A cliffhanger will see Gemma lying motionless in the cold and dark.
Reports emerged in the press last month that Gemma would be killed off during a forthcoming episode after Emmerdale producer Kate Oates revealed that a life-changing story would be in the offing for Belle and the Dingles.
"We've got a story for them that really tests them as a family this year,” said Oates. "Belle - who has always been the bright spark and the big hope...something really life-changing is going to happen to her quite early in the year, and she'll need the support of her family but maybe they don't quite support her in the way that she needs."
