What do you get when you cross Take That and McBusted? A SUPERMANBAND. Ta-dah! And that’s exactly what The Big Reunion have assembled for their second series starting tonight.
So, who is in this supermanband, we hear you ask? A smorgasbord of nineties poptastic talent repackaged as 5th Story. It really is an embarrassment of riches. We give you… Dane Bowers, Gareth Gates, Kenzie (the only one you’ll recognise from Blazin’ Squad), Adam Rickitt (the former soap star who launched his solo career naked in a glass box) and Kavana (the one who was never that famous in the first place).
So how do they feel about these blasts from their pasts…?
Adam, we’ll direct that at you… “I just weep like a child. That’s why I’m so glad these boys are in it because it gives me a bit of credibility. It wasn’t my favourite time of my life.” No kidding.
At least somebody’s willing to hold their head high, eh Kenzie? “I’m 50/50. I’m really proud of what we achieved but the problem you have is that you look back at old photos and I can’t believe I used to do that. The whole thing was documented on television and in magazines and everyone else can see it. I’m still proud of what we did but now we’ve got a chance to do it again a little bit more mature.”
The Big Reunion is at its most entertaining when we see estranged band members come face to face after years apart but the five of you have just met… how does that work, Gareth? “When I was first asked I didn’t really know what to do because I’ve always been a solo artist, but we’ve all joined together, everyone’s lovely and we’re all getting on really well. We’ve made our individual songs a band version.”
“It’s a completely different world to being a solo artist,” adds Kenzie. “A group is just a different planet.” Deep.
So, can we expect plenty more things from our exciting new supermanband? Kavana has his fingers crossed: “If people want us, we’d be happy to!”
“It’s up to the public now to support us,” adds Adam. Watch this space…
