Get ready for the Empire State Building and Statue of Liberty to be "Sharknado'd"...
The sequel to last year's gory hit from Syfy and The Asylum will be set in New York City with original stars Tara Reid and Ian Ziewring confirmed to reprise their roles as April and Fin.
Anthony Ferrante will return to direct, with original screenwriter Thunder Levin (yes, that's his actual name) also back on board.
And rightly sticking with their winning concept, Sharknado 2: The Second One will see a freak weather system turn deadly once again, unleashing a whirlwind of sharks on the population of New York City and chomping its way through historic landmarks and (producers are hoping) social media.
"Sharknado was an extraordinary 'perfect storm' which captured the attention of movie fans across the globe," said Thoms Vitale, Syfy's executive VP of programming and original movies. "You couldn't go anywhere without hearing about Sharknado! By reassembling the creative team – and dropping sharks onto New York's iconic sites – we're unleashing yet another 'fin' wave of shark-mania."
The Asylum's COO, Paul Bales, added, "We're thrilled to be able to bring back the talent that made Sharknado a hit. Can lightning strike twice? I don't know, but it's a scientific fact that you're more likely to be killed by lightning than by a shark. This film will have lightning and sharks, so that's got to count for something."
Sharknado 2 will begin filming in New York on 13 February and is expected to premiere on Syfy this July.
