Simon Cowell is busy filming Britain’s Got Talent right now, but fellow BGT judge Amanda Holden admits the X Factor needs him too.
“With the best will in the world, they have Gary Barlow who is phenomenal and Nicole Scherzinger who is amazing, but it kind of needs Simon back,” Holden told RadioTimes.com.
“I hate saying that,” she added. “But it kind of does.”
Rumours of meetings and deals have been circulating for the last week and Holden says, “I think he’ll come back. I’d love to see him back on X Factor.”
The X Factor panel has been through various judging changes with Gary Barlow, Sharon Osbourne, Louis Walsh and Tulisa Contostavlos among those holding the fort without Mr Cowell.
And while the UK X Factor has been confirmed for a further three years on ITV, ratings have seen a dip. The climax of the 2013 series, which saw Sam Bailey crowned champ, was watched by 9.6 million people, making it the second lowest final in the show’s history.
Meanwhile, Cowell himself has been stateside judging on the US version, where ratings have also struggled to match previous years.
Having sat on the BGT panel with and without the music mogul, Holden says that when he’s there, “it makes a huge difference”.
“I think without doubt the ratings did go down when he wasn’t there," she said. "I just like him being in England generally, then I can keep an eye on him, make sure he’s alright.”
