All our McDreams have come true... Grey's Anatomy stars Patrick Dempsey and Ellen Pompeo – who play Derek "McDreamy" Shepherd and his wife, Meredith – have signed contracts to stay on the US medical drama for another two years.

The deal will see the duo remain on the show throughout seasons 11 and 12, although their co-star Sandra Oh – who plays Meredith's best pal Christina Yang – announced last year her decision to depart the award-winning series and will appear on screen for the last time this May.

While ABC is yet to confirm the show's renewal beyond series 10, Grey's is expected to return next year. However, while Dempsey and Pompeo are confirmed to stick around, the fate of their fellow original cast members still hangs in the balance.

Justin Chambers (who plays Alex Karev), Chandra Wilson (Miranda Bailey), James Pickens Jr (Richard Webber) and Sara Ramirez (Callie Torres) are locked into contracts set to expire at the end of the current season. While Ramirez joined the show in series 2, she and the remaining three cast members are on the same renegotiation schedule, with show runner Shonda Rhimes yet to confirm their return to the medical soap.

Grey's Anatomy series 10 is currently showing on Sky Living on Sundays at 10pm
