EastEnders star Khali Best has been crowned Best Newcomer at this year's NTA Awards 2014.

The actor who plays mechanic Dexter Hartman beat stiff competition from the likes of Coronation Street's Marc Baylis, Emmerdale's Michelle Hardwick and Hollyoaks star Anna Passey to the award.

Best joined the soap one year ago. on accepting the award, he praised the writers for giving him great storylines from the off.

"I want to thank all the people out there who voted," he continued. "I've had an amazing year, thank you very much!"

He told Radio Times recently, "There’s a real buzz about the show right now, which is good. I think everyone is excited about the Carters, simply because of how diverse they are. And the casting of Danny Dyer as Mick and Kellie Bright as Linda is refreshing for the audience."
