Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels actor Jason Flemyng is taking a leading role in a new E4 drama pilot described as “a mind-bending and hilarious tumble down a 21st century rabbit hole”.

Flemyng stars alongside Four Lions' Arsher Ali as an assassin hunting down the main characters in ALT, two friends who are transported to a parallel universe where they encounter different versions of themselves.

Gethin Anthony, who played doomed king Renly Baratheon in the first series of Game of Thrones, is 24-year-old Danny, who discovers in his new world that his girlfriend does not even recognise him and that someone else is living his life "badly". In addition, people who were dead in his former life are alive and well in the parallel version.

Craig Roberts, who starred in the 2010 British coming-of-age movie Submarine, as well as BBC3 supernatural drama Being Human, is Danny's waster ex-best friend Milo. Together, the pair embark on various adventures as they bid to evade their potential killers and find their way home.

ALT is written by Jamie Mathieson, who penned episodes of Being Human, and E4 will be hoping for a similar level of success for the piloted show which will be made into a full series if it does sufficiently well.

Commissioner Beth Willis said: “Milo and Danny are wonderful and useless and loveable. Expect the unexpected – and lots of laughs.”

The 60-minute pilot for the channel will air this spring.
