Michael Bay bails on interview after teleprompt hiccup causes stage fright

Hollywood director of Transformer series leaves audience stunned after walking off stage at Samsung event at CES in Las Vegas

He may have been demonstrating “the most immersive viewing experience” ever created on a TV, but Hollywood director Michael Bay wasn’t able to offer the most engaging interview ever given when he took to the stage to talk about a new Samsung TV in Las Vegas.

Shortly after arriving in front of the audience to answer questions about a new bendable TV at the CES event in America, the Transformers director complained that his autocue had stopped working. Showing the courage and determination of an action star in one of his films, he promised to “just wing it.”

However, when asked for his further thoughts on the new 105 inch LED TV he was meant to be promoting and the impact it would have on film, he was left speechless. After a little pacing and a repeated apology, he then used his wings to take flight and leave the stage as quickly as possible.  The audience looked on – there was to be no encore.

The 47-year-old director later used his personal blog to explain.

“Wow! I just embarrassed myself at CES,” he wrote.

“I got so excited to talk, that I skipped over the Exec VP’s intro line and then the teleprompter got lost.

“Then the prompter went up and down – then I walked off. I guess live shows aren’t my thing.”
