Rachel Breckle (Gemma Oaten) is to leave Emmerdale in next week’s episodes after a scheming Charity (Emma Atkins) admits to being the one who has framed Sam (James Hooton).
After Sam is arrested and charged with starting the fire at Home Farm, a vengeful Charity offers Rachel a way of getting her beleaguered boyfriend out of prison. Realising that Charity has all the bases covered, a trapped Rachel comes to the immediate realisation that Sam’s fate lies in her hands.
“Rachel has always said that she’d do anything to help Sam and Charity has cottoned on to this,” says Gemma Oaten. “Rachel can’t bear to see the man she loves locked away for years – she would give up anything for Sam. But what Charity is asking involves a massive sacrifice, especially seeing as Rachel has got a little baby.”
The showdown marks the end of Oaten’s two-and-a-half-year stint on the ITV soap, so is the actress pleased with her final scenes?
“I couldn’t be happier. The hours I’ve been working and the emotional content of the scenes have been a challenge. My voice is croaky and I’m really tired, but it’s fitting as I feel like I’m going through the same thing as Rachel.
“My last few weeks of filming will stay with me forever and I feel blessed to have had such a great send-off. I’m going to miss all the cast, but if I had to single anyone out, I’d have to say my boy James Hooton. We’ve been through a lot and he’s going to be in my life forever.”
