Game of Thrones has officially been named the most pirated programme of 2013.

The hit fantasy series had more unauthorised downloads than any other TV show during the last year, with its series three finale garnering 5.9 million hits.

It's the second year in a row that the drama, which is based on the best-selling novels of George RR Martin, has been given the title of the most illegally downloaded programme by Bit Torrent.

The news doesn't really come as a surprise, as the HBO fantasy series, which airs on Sky Atlantic in the UK, has already broken a number of piracy records this year.

Game of Thrones beat Breaking Bad, The Walking Dead, The Big Bang Theory and Dexter to the top spot.

Suits, Homeland, Vikings, Arrow and How I Met Your Mother made up the rest of the top ten.
