Bride & Prejudice

This Bollywood version of Pride and Prejudice from 2004 by British director Gurinder Chadha of Bend It like Beckham fame took the romance to India. It starred former Miss World, Aishwarya Rai, as the modern-day incarnation of Elizabeth Bennet.

Lost in Austen

In this 2008 TV fantasy, Amanda Price (Jemima Rooper) is a 21st-century woman who walks through a door into Pride and Prejudice. Elliot Cowan out-smouldered Colin Firth’s Mr Darcy.

Miss Austen Regrets

This BBC film from 2008 is based on the last years of Austen’s life. Starring Olivia Williams as the novelist and Greta Scacchi as Austen’s elder sister Cassandra.

Clueless

Even Hollywood isn’t immune to Austen’s influence. Alicia Silverstone starred as a Beverly Hills high-school matchmaker in this 1995 film, loosely based on Emma. Frothy, but fun.
