Think Christmas Day wouldn't be the same without presents under the tree, cheesy festive songs and the arrival of distant relations. Well, how about if Doctor Who wasn't on the telly?

We asked what TV show you couldn't live without on Christmas Day - and Doctor Who won by a huge majority.

Over 1,000 RadioTimes.com readers had their say with 65% choosing the hit BBC sci-fi show as the TV they'd watch if they could only sit down in front of one programme this Christmas Day.

Doctor Who beat of competition from the likes of EastEnders, the Queens speech and Downton Abbey to get the top spot. It's a fitting win for Doctor Who, which celebrated its 50th anniversary year in 2013. Especially as this Christmas Who fans will be in for even more of a treat, as the feature-length episode will see the current Timelord Matt Smith regenerate into Peter Capaldi's Doctor.

Period drama Downton Abbey, which follows the lives, loves and scandals of the aristocratic Crawley family and their staff in 1920s Yorkshire, come in second with 18% of the votes while Strictly Come Dancing, EastEnders and Call the Midwife shared third place with 3% each.

Doctor Who Christmas special is on at 7:30pm on BBC1
