Downton Abbey fans will be looking forward to seeing Carson and co back on their screens later this month, but Jim Carter, who plays the Crawley's no-nonsense butler in the ITV period drama, has scored himself a Christmas Day double, playing an equally grumpy character on children's story show Bookaboo.

Carter will join the eponymous drum-playing dog in the CITV series, bringing his suitably stentorian tones to seasonal story Grumpy Badger's Christmas.

"I think I'm reading this one because I look a bit like a grumpy badger," says Carter. "I don't have to do too much for a grumpy badger voice but I have to work harder at squeaky squirrels and things like that."

Watch the exclusive clip from the Bookaboo Christmas special below.

Watch Jim Carter in Bookaboo on CITV on Friday 20 December at 10:35am, Sunday 22 December at 7:25am on ITV/CITV, Christmas Eve at 10:30am on CITV and Christmas Day at 6:50am on ITV/CITV
