Evangeline Lilly has said that her Hobbit co-star Orlando Bloom is the perfect elf because of the actor's proficiency with a bow and arrow and as a horseman.

"He is a good archer he is also a good equestrian," Lilly reveals in an interview with Radio Times (below). "He is the perfect elf and I couldn't be more opposite. I was just fumbling my way through it."

Lilly may be showing some false modesty here. Bloom has had much more experience of playing his elf Legolas not least across the Lord of the Rings trilogy. And at the LA press junket she revealed that she went through five different types of training:weapons training, stunt training, movement training, dialect training, language training and was taught to use double daggers and a bow and arrow in weapons training.

She adds that she believes that her character, the woodland elf Tauriel, brings a softer side to Peter Jackson's latest Middle Earth tale of magic, goblins and elves.

The Lost star said that Tauriel brings some "emotion, some compassion to the film".

She adds: "A lot of the male characters are driven by selfish ends. They are driven by greed and revenge and land. She's not driven by any of those things, she's driven by something in her heart."

He character Tauriel was not in Tolkien's original book but was created by Jackson to add more female roles to the film.
