Luke Friend has been voted out of The X Factor 2013.

Louis Walsh's act has placed third in the competition, with Sam Bailey and Nicholas McDonald heading into tomorrow night's final.

Luke arrived at this year’s X Factor auditions and instantly became as well known for his hair as his singing ability.

He hadn’t washed it for something silly like nine months. Yep, it was pretty big news when it eventually got a clean.

Anyway, back to the singing. Luke caught the judges’ attention with his signature raspy voice with a cover of Ben E. King’s Stand By Me.

Luke sailed through the second round of auditions, Bootcamp and survived the chairs, bagging himself a spot at Louis Walsh’s St Tropez Judges' Houses.

Here Luke sang Damien Rice’s Cannonball to Louis, Sinitta, Shane Filan and Nicole Appleton before the long-standing judge added Luke to his final three for the live shows.

Once the live shows started Luke carved a clear path for himself, working hard to make each song he covered his own. Luke avoided elimination in a couple of sing-offs, beating Gary Barlow’s Rough Copy to take the final spot in the final last week.

Earlier in the series his rendition of One Direction’s What Makes You Beautiful was highly commended by the judges, with Nicole Scherzinger saying it was “unrecognisable”

Indeed Luke chose this as one of his songs for the final weekend, along with a cover of Fun’s We Are Young.

Luke was tonight joined by guest star Ellie Goulding to perform her track Anything Can Happen.

On leaving the competition Luke said he was chuffed to have made it this far and getting the chance to perform at Wembley stadium.

The X Factor final continues tomorrow night, when this year's winner will be crowned and their winner's single revealed.
