Carols from King's, 6:15pm, BBC2

Smooth out those festive stresses before the big day itself with an hour and a quarter of traditional Christmas celebrations and beautifully sung carols. Plus a reminder of the day's religious meaning, as the story of the Nativity is told in the words of the King James Bible from the chapel in King's College, Cambridge.

The Snowman and The Snowdog, 7:30pm, BBC1

Last year's Christmas treat is repeated this evening as the festive classic comes back to life. The charming and heartwarming tale is updated when a new little boy stumbles upon the snowman's hat and scarf in his new house and decides to build a snowman - and a snowdog. When the pair come to life they all embark on an adventure but, as before, their friendship is short lived. If you don't melt along with these frosty friends, you've got an icicle for a heart.

The Perfect Morecambe and Wise Christmas Special, 7:30pm, BBC2

It's not Christmas without Morecambe and Wise, is it? Get your fix of the comedy geniuses with this grab-bag of the double act at their best. Des O'Connor has finally had enough of all the insults, Angela Rippon gets out from behind the news desk and Andre Previn receives a masterclass in how to play Grieg.

Midsomer Murders, 8:00pm, ITV

A new detective arrives in Midsomer this Christmas. But there's barely time for a welcome party before a ghost-hunter is slain with an antique sword in the pretty village of Morton Shallows. You'd think the residents of Midsomer might be able to ease off the bloodshed during the season of goodwill, wouldn't you?

Last Tango in Halifax, 9:00pm, BBC1

It's the final of the second series of Last Tango in Halifax tonight and tensions, as always, are running high. Gillian and Caroline emerge from a foggy, alcohol-fueled night with a dark secret to deal with. But it's not all doom and gloom - as the drama comes to a close, Alan and Celia prepare for wedding bells.

The IT Crowd night, from 9:00pm, Channel 4

If you missed the one-off return of Roy, Moss and Jen earlier this year, you're in for a treat. The final visit to Reynholm Industries' dingy basement is being repeated alongside a new documentary about the comedy plus a run of the fans' favourite and the writers' favourite episodes. Christmas come early, eh?
