X Factor 2013 has already taken a couple of steps down memory lane bringing back former judge Sharon Osbourne and returning to the room audition format. But could we be going back to the 2010 glory days of Dannii Minogue and, dare we say it, Simon Cowell on the panel?
News has just emerged that Dannii’s current UK judging role on Britain and Ireland’s Next Top Model is no more as the show is getting the chop.
Minogue’s time with the buzzers on Australia’s Got Talent ended in 2012 and while her run as a judge on this year's X Factor Australia seems to be going well, perhaps a spot on the UK version, which she left in 2010, will be all too tempting.
Dannii’s popstar sister Kylie is already confirmed as a judge for BBC1 rival singing show The Voice in 2014… what’s a little broadcasting rivalry between siblings, eh?
And it may well be two old favourites for the price of one with Simon Cowell also rumoured to be heading back to the UK show. The US version of the X Factor isn’t performing well in terms of viewing figures, plus this year’s UK version has seen Saturday night figures fall below that of Strictly Come Dancing, something that could prompt Cowell to take back the reigns.
After all, Take That front man Gary Barlow announced live on air that he’s heading off and host Dermot O’Leary made further reference to a Cowell comeback at the One Direction film premiere earlier this year saying, “If Simon comes back, the dynamic would be very different. Gary wouldn’t be there.”
Long-standing X Factor judge Louis Walsh may or may not leave (even he doesn’t seem sure) and Sharon Osbourne appears to only be back for the one series.
It’s all looking a little lonely for little Miss Scherzinger – if indeed the former Pussycat Doll decides to stick around.
But whether Dannii would contemplate the idea of a UK return after an unauthorised book about Simon Cowell detailed a romance between the pair remains to be seen. It may very well be a little too much bother for the Aussie beauty. Watch this space…
