Hats off to Daniel Radcliffe, who ever since Harry Potter has been working hard to put his boy wizard days behind him, from shedding his clothes in Equus to spooking cinema-goers in The Woman in Black. But if the latest rumours are to be believed, Radcliffe is set to add another diverse role to his growing CV as Queen frontman Freddie Mercury.
Now before you get too excited, this all originates from a report in the Daily Star, but ever since the departure of Sacha Baron Cohen earlier this year, the stalling biopic has been in search of a replacement to play its leading man. And while Radcliffe's Harry Potter credentials don't exactly advertise him to play the extravagant singer, producers are 'said' to have been impressed by one of his recent roles...
"Daniel has been told the part is his if he wants it," a 'source' told the newspaper. "Despite his youth, Daniel impressed movie bosses with his portrayal of gay poet Allen Ginsburg in this year's movie Kill Your Darlings. Plus, he's closer in height to Freddie than Sacha, who's much taller. Daniel can really sing, too." We'll take that with a pinch of salt, then.
The forthcoming biopic has been steeped in mystery ever since Baron Cohen's departure in July, with rumours suggesting the Borat star had struggled to agree with Queen over the type of film that would be made.
