Nominated for: Outstanding Lead Actor in a Mini Series or Movie

Role: Alfred Hitchcock in The Girl

One of the highlights of the BBC’s Christmas offering last year, Toby Jones’s portrayal of the film director as a lecherous control freak in The Girl receives an Emmy nomination.

It’s the first time the 47-year-old has been nominated in the Emmys; however, he will be in familiar company, as he is nominated in the same category as fellow Brit and friend Benedict Cumberbatch (read our Emmy guide to him Cumberbatch here).

They’ve worked together twice, on 2009 film Creation and 2011 spy thriller Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy.
