Having conquered the world of TV, Simon Cowell is about to take on the West End with new X Factor musical I Can't Sing! Penned by Harry Hill, the production will star Nigel Harman as the talent show creator with a penchant for high-waisted trousers when this witty send up of the talent show format comes to the London Palladium next March.
But having ticked television and theatre off his to-do list, could Mr Cowell soon follow the example of Mamma Mia! and debut I Can't Sing! on the silver screen? When RadioTimes.com put the question to him at today's official press launch for his new show, he seemed rather keen on the idea... "Do you know, I'd never thought about that but yes, it would be amazing," he said, before adding, "Fingers crossed."
Having planted that seed in Simon's head, we then presented the idea to co-writer Harry Hill who appeared to have already given the idea a good deal of thought:
"Yes, I would love to do that and I've got that in mind. That could be a really fun project. It's difficult sometimes to portray the world of TV on TV or in film - there's a way of doing it. Yes."
So, if I Can't Sing! succeeds in avoiding a Viva Forever!-style flop when it plays to reviewers next year, it looks like Cowell could soon be plotting his assault on the bright lights of Hollywood. In the words of the man himself, "fingers crossed..."
