Famous for: designing cutting edge collections and dressing the stars
“You’ve only got one life. It’s an amazing opportunity – the journey, the people you will meet, the fact viewers will get to see my personality and the funny side of me. I will be able to dance hopefully by the end of it – and that’s why I’ve ended up doing Strictly.”
Bio: Julien Mcdonald OBE’s love for design began when he was a child living in Merthyr Tydfil in Wales when his mum taught him how to knit.
He’s come a long way since then, working for Karl Lagerfeld at Chanel and being appointed chief designer at Givenchy before being named British Fashion Designer of the Year in 2001. Fancy.
The 43-year-old has since been a judge on Britain & Ireland’s Next Top Model and he’s not even a stranger to Strictly having appeared on It Takes Two to pass his judgement as the show’s resident fashion expert.
He’s Strictly’s very first fashion designer contestant so he’s something of a pioneer. We know he can design clothes – he’ll probably drive the costume department mad – but can his skills stretch to strutting his stuff on the dance floor? We’ll have to wait and see.

Ellie is an entertainment, TV and film journalist writing news and (hopefully incredibly witty) comment for RadioTimes.com. She loves light-hearted dramas and glossy US series - and is more than a little bit obsessed with Downton Abbey. Foodie, sun-seeker and aspiring novelist in her own time. Likes the fact that her name rhymes with telly.
