Guardians of the Galaxy shoots in Hemel Hempstead

Hollywood 3D superhero movie, starring Vin Diesel and Bradley Cooper, films in an unlikely Hertfordshire location

Blockbuster director James Gunn (Dawn of the Dead, Scooby Doo) has popped up in the most unlikely location – Hemel Hempstead Hospital – where he is filming scenes for his new film Guardians of the Galaxy, reported local paper Hemel Today.

The 3D superhero film, which will star Vin Diesel (Fast & Furious, Saving Private Ryan) and Bradley Cooper, is based on the Marvel Comic about an American pilot who gets stranded in space, and has to team up with a bunch of futuristic ex-cons.

Filming for the movie has also taken place at Shepperton Studios in Surrey and in locations around London.

A spokesman for West Herts Hospitals NHS Trust, owners of the Hemel Hempstead site, told Hemel Today: “A film company used the Hemel Hempstead hospital site for two days this week to film part of a new movie. The filming did not affect patient services in any way and the film company has made a donation to hospital funds for the use of our facilities.”

Guardians of the Galaxy will also star 25-year-old Karen Gillan (Doctor Who, Pond Life) who plays the villainous space pirate Nebula. Plus Lee Pace (The Hobbit) who will play Ronan the Accused and Benicio del Toro (Usual Suspects, Snach, Traffic) who’ll star as The Collector.

Guardians Of The Galaxy is expected to be released in August 2014.
